Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Medical Education

The Covid-19 pandemic has led to an unusual break in medical education and healthcare systems worldwide. Medical Students have faced unique challenges while studying online. Due to rapid changes in the COVID-19 landscape pointing up the need for timely, explicit, and accurate communication. A virtual learning environment leads to medical students' lack of practical experience.


Covid-19 had an impact excessively throughout the process of learning and medical students have a key role in the learning process in the hospital. In a Survey four in five students found difficulty in online classes as concentration level and accuracy in the topic would not be maximum in online classes as compared to offline. Mukhesh Reddy, Pharm D, 6th year, student of DSU, said, "as the practical learning was completely shut down we could not able to reach out the practical learning experiences and the worst part is that we had to give a thesis presentation for the graduation, which generally we do in a hospital setup, we go to do some review based or community-based projects which again shunts the practical experience in conducting clinical research."


A survey conducted by the medical students of DSU says it had a major impact on mental health. The shocking result came out. On a brief note, it has impacted everyone's sleep cycle. Students and working professionals claimed that due to online assignments and hectic work their life cycle was badly impacted.


Fida Firdows, a resident doctor at Sagar Hospital talked about the impact of COVID-19 on medical education and her experience.









Due to COVID-19, medical students did not get exposure to offline treatment in the hospital and there was no interaction between the students and the patients. Hariprasadam, a resident doctor said, "100 years back, at that time the Spanish flu came but we did not know how to tackle them. Now, we have the technology and there will be no major impact on this. It will be recovered soon."
